Sorte Sua Contentus

Here is a picture of the Hartwell family crest. It looks pretty impressive. Kind of regal and stately. Especially that awesome latin motto, right?

"Sorte Sua Contentus"

Translation:

"Content with his lot"

Sounds like my ancestors were real go-getters, doesn't it?

LOL!!!!! Very funny.

Geez... I want a family crest! Do you have to be extra awesome to have one? Because I'm pretty awesome, I think.

Just Google "family crest ". There are crests there for both your married and maiden names. But you might have to do some digging to find out which one actually came from your ancestors!

Actually, this Hartwell family crest dates back to Charlemagne. My brother traced our family line from our PA birthplace through the New York branch and all the way back to its granting by Charlemagne. Pretty Awesome. Nice to "meet" a relative.

1. This is a coat of arms or heraldic achievement, not a crest. The crest is just the bit on the top of the helmet.

2. In UK heraldry there is no such thing as family arms. The only person who can legally use these arms is the eldest male line descendent of the original arminger.

I recommend reading "Simple Heraldry cheerfully illustrated" of you wanna learn more, you can find a free PDF online.

I love the family history! We're part of the NY branch that moved to PA way back. My great Uncle Richard Hartwell was the family historian that drew the family crest we have in our livingroom.

My father was “in line for the throne” if this place was still running. Found our crest a year ago and I am a direct family member! Go hartwell !!
